ANNUAL CONVENTION.
(Pert Press Association.) Greymoutb, la3t night. The twenty-first annual convention of tbe Women's Christian Temperance Union opened with a prayer meeting, conducted by the prrsident. The roll was called, and the following took their seats : —President, Mrs &. R. Atkinson, Wellington ; corresponding secretary, Miss Powell, Dunedin; recordiog aeoretary, Mias Moody Bell, Dunedin; treasurer, Mrs H. Hill, Napier ; Mrs Oldham, Napier; Mrs J. Smith, Wanganui; Mrs Upton, New Plymouth ; Mrs Griffin, Blenheim ; Mrs Hughes, Auckland ; Mrs Webb, Ormondville ; Miss Webb, Ormondville ; Mrs Allen, Ormondville ; Mrs Ga?ker>, Greymouth; Mrs Hansen, Greymoutb ; Miss Maunder, Hawera; Mrs J. Taylor, Wellington ; Mrs McCarthy, Waimate ; Mrs HarrisoD, Kaipara ; Mrs Don, Dunedin ; Mrs Day, Lyttelton ; Mrs Graham, Gisborne ; Mrs NewtoD, Woodend ; and Mrs Boase, Matapu. Resolutions wero passed protesting against tbe employment of barmaids; calling upon the Premier to introduce a Bill raising the age of protection for girls to 21 years ; calling for the repeal of the O.D. Acts ; urging the passage of a permissive Bill, providing for the fiaiog of guardians whose children are found loitering in the streets at night; and calling attention to the danger to tho community of grooers’ licenses. A telegram of greeting was received from the president of the Women’s Branch of the New Zealand Allionce. The delegates were weloomed at afternoon tea by the ladies of the town, and a most enjoyable time spent.
