Govelt, chairman of the Ivanhoc Gold Company, Western Australia, in a letter lo the Times in referenco to Mr Churobill's in the House of Commons, comparing tho Ivanhoe and Rand mines, states that if the staff of the Ivanhoe and its men were transplanted to the Baud, they would be able at the present rate of Australian wages to maintain, and perhaps reduoe, the cost of mining on the Rand; nevertheless, Chinese were necessary to the Rand, because there were not enough blacks and efficient white labor was not obtainable. "%
