QUESTION OF DRAWING STUMPS
'(Per Press Association.) Dunedin last night. Fnrthor inquiry shows it was not the umpires who decided to draw Btumps because. the light was bad. WilsoD, who captained the local team, says in aU decent matohes in Australia, no batsmen is sent in within five minutes of the time of drawing stumps, and he took it upon himself to introduce the same thing here. As a matter of fact, the plaoos of Ailken and Irwin were taken in the field by substitutes, and it is doubtful if either of them could have batted, in whioh case the Melbourne 0.0, side was exhausted, Aitken was on the ground, and could doubtless I have hobbled to the wioket, and get someone to.run for him. The crowd present did not understand the circumstances under which the gamoj was concluded, and as the custom in Australia is quite unknown here, some surprise was ex pressed at the supposed action of the umpires, whereas the umpires declined to ray anything.
