Wellington, last night,
A remarkable surgical operation was recently performed at the Wellington Hospital. A young man named Harold Williams, employed at a foundry in the city, attempted to remove an eleotrio wire whioh was in his way while working on the top of a boiler. By some accident this wire was carrying a very heavy voltage, and Williams reoeived the full oharge with terrible result. His right hand was so badly burned that it has since had to be removed, and the bottom of the right foot, then in contact with the boiler plate, was burnt away. After admission to tbe hospital the solelees foot was stripped closely to the inside of the left thigh, to which it gradually grew. Then anothe? operation was necessary to out away the skin from tbe leg, that was to the Bole of the injured foot. The skin adhered to the foot with the exception of a small patch which was subsequently mended by grafting. The oause of the accident should never have existed, and Williams has received £1750 compensation from the New Zealand Eleetrioal Syndicate.
