Wellington, lasi night,

At the Police Court this afternooo, the Pubiio Health Department proceeded against two Chinese fruiterers on informations charging them with having on the previous day exposed bananas for sale that wore unfit for human consumption. An inspector of the Department deposed that ho purchased a dezan putrid bananas from each of the defendants’ shops. They were taksn from amongst others of a simitar kind in a baskot on the counter. The district Health Officer stated that hB bad condemned the fruit. Fines of JR were imposed iu each case. At tho instance of the Wellington Chamber of Commeroe the Pos’al Department has decided to admit code' addressee on inlapd telegrams.

Hemus (Auckland) is unable to obtain the necessary leave to play in the New Zealand Eleven against Melbourne, and Redgrave (Wellington) has been selected in bis place.

Invercargill, last night,

A deputation from Prisoners Aid Society, with tho Crown P.o3tcutor as spokesman, waited on tbo Hon. McGowan, Minister for Justice, to night, to urge indeterminate aentenoep. The Minister said he was disposed to introduce some suoh measure next session, but oould not yet say what particular lines tho Bill would bo drafted on.
