Evans, formerly of tho relief ship Morning, in which ho says “An expedition to tho Antarctic is loaving noxt September to explore tho land south of Oupo Horn, within the Antarctic circle. Tho object is to survey and connect that land with that discovered by Captain Scott, of tho Hiscovery. To carry out tho plan ,£12,000 is wanted by private subscrip .ions.” He appoals to Now Zealanders to help financially. A spell of excellent haivost] woathor has euablod the machines to get down a large portion of the late crop. Reports from various districts indicate that the yiold is abundant, but a good deal of early cut grain in stock has sprouted. Still tho harvest results aro quite up to the average.
