SHOOTING AFFAIR.
DAIRYMAN TWICE WOUNDED,
An extraordinary shooting allair is 1 ported from Newsavale, 17 miles frc Gympie, Queensland. At midnight i March Ist, a dairyman named Poroy i Waller was awakened by someone wl asked for assistance in getting a boggi cow out of a neighboring creek. Wall obtained ropes end tackling, and with h son John, aged 17, proceeded to the a si6tance of the man. Waller, who wr oarrying a lighted lantern, was suddeol shot twice in both legs, near the hips. Th , assailant then struck young Waller oye tho head with the rifle, inflicting a seal wound. The Winchester rifle belonged I young Waller, who was out wallaby shoot ing earlier in tho night, and Ibo weapot must have been stolen from his room The name of the assailant is unknown. The assailant was about 40 yards ahead when the first shot was fired, hitting Waller in (be left tbigh; but it did not bring him ,to the ground immediately. After the eeeond shot hit Waller in the right tbigb, he attempted to struggle to-, wards home with the assistance of bis sod. | He had not gone far when the son was suddenly struck on tbo beck of the head with a clubbed rifle. The assailant disappeared. Father and son managed to reach home. The rifle was found broken in two. The weapon was stolen from an onthouße (not tbe son’s bedrcom), where the son left it with two cartridges in. Both bullets were embedded in the bones of tbe tbigh,
