The trouble with the British settlement has been that Britishers have no markets unless they become French eubjeots, Why cannot we throw open our ports then, and thus add a new element to the situation net at a'l inimical to France, and show the world wo are prepared to do for our own oountrymen what France ia'V doiog for here.”
