REPLY TO MR JOYCE.
[To the Editor Gisborne Times.)]
Sir, —We have had many effusions of ate on the prohibition question, but from an illogical standpoint I think the cno from E P. Joyce in your issue of this morning is hard fo beat. Mr Joyce says : " - . , which views (prohibition) are at variance with the people’s mode of making a living, together with oausing strife, angor and ma'ioe amongst neighbors.” This reminds one that if some people’s j mode of liviog is keepiog a common gambling house, therefore, according to Mr Joyce, the police are very wrong to " have views at variance with them,” for it is sure "to cause s'rife, anger, and malice ” between the parties. The police should certaidy have more consideration for people’s '* mode of makiDg a living.” The fact that the Church of England finds a necessity to increase its building would lead one to imagine that those " pronounced prohibition views" of the Rev, Dawson Thomas have been very successful,—l am, eto.>
