LICENSING ELECTION.

(To the Editor Gisborne Times.)'

Sir,—Ra the licensing election, we consider it our duty to place before the public the facts connected with the negotiations for the nomination of a Committee to save the ratepayers the exp- n?e, amounting to between £2lio and £3OO, of a contested election, -

We were perfectly s tisfied with the old Committee, and were not desirous of any change, but found that they were not acceptable to the no-license pa-ty. It was then suggested that that party should nominate two of its members, Messrs LEsfc and Srmerxel 1 , and two others, Messrs Hepburn and Catsßr, would be nominated by ourfe’ves, tho cbo ? oe lof the fif fa to be decided by lo‘, and to be selected from the remaining two of the old Committee, v'z., Captain Tucker and Mr A. H. Wallis. [ This, perfectly fair and cqiitabh course the .prohibition party refus’d to agree to, and they unfairly claimed the tight to Dominate tbo fifth man. Being unablo to oonseot'to give them a preponderance of : power-)' we are reluctantly compelled, to submit the names lo the electors of five gentlemen who are well known thioughout the district as possessing fair and moderate views, and whom, wo are sure, will r d« justice to both sides of this very vextpl.question.—Yours, ete.. v ' i j a. habding, LioenFel Victuallers’ V'.v.’ Association. ■
