TWO FIRES.
.(Per Press Association.) Stratford, last night. An eight-roomed house, owned by Mrs Rebecca'Cole?, Auckland, and occupied by 0. J. King, was destroyed by fire early this morning. The insurance on the building is not yet available, King's effects were covered by £250 in the Australian Allianoe. Ma>ton, last nigbt. A fire fit at 2 o’clock on Sunday morning completely destroyed a shop and. two-storeyed dwelling owned and oooupied by Lovegrove Bros., painters, also a shop and dwelling owned and ocoapitd by Mrs A. F. Shaw, fruiterer and grocer, and two shops and dwelling combined owned by T. H. Bredin, grocer. One shop was occupied by the owner and the other by Miss Cormack, milliner. The Marton Hotel, another shop owned by BrediD, and J. MoEldowney’s establishment was damaged. The dwelling owned by Bredin was occupied by J. Good. His furniture was rescued. The stock and furniture belonging to Lovegrove Bros, and Mrs Shaw were destroyed. Considerable dam« [ ago was drno to Bredin’s Et:ck. The splendid efforts of the brigade saved the adjoining buildings. The insurances are : T. H, BrediD, stock £I6OO, building (destroyed) £l5O, in Liverpool, London and Globe ; the other shop, considerably damaged, insured in the New Zealand office for £3OO ; Shaw, £l5O on the stock in Liverpoo l , London and Globe, and £IOO on tha shop at.d dwelling in the Standard (Qke; Lovegrove Bros, £450 on the furniture, dwelling and stock in the Liverpool, London and Globe.
