AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS.
STANDARD BEATEN BY SEVEN COMPETITORS.
(Per Press Association.) Dunedin, last night. Beautiful weather prevailed for the New Zealand Amate'ur Athletic Championship meeting carried out on Oarisbrook grounds by the Otago centre. The attendance wes good, and there should be a profit on the meeliDg. Tbo cinder track was in good order, as also was the turf. The meeting was in every respect successful. That the performances were good is shown by the fact that seven competitors beat the standard, namely in half-mile, 8-miles, mile fiat, 2-mile walk, long jump, 440 yards, and 3 mile wa'k. Keddell beat the New Ztaland record in the long jump by covering 28ft 3in, but failed in beating tb*c Australasian record. The contest for tho championship banner for the moat points was very keen between Otago and Canterbury, the former wioning. The points were

Francis, Davis, and Halligan also competed. 120 Yards Hurdles Championship—G. P. Keddell, Otago, 1; H. S- Murray, Canterbury, 2 ; W. J. O’Eane, Olago, 3. Rad* dock also started. Time 17sec. Three Mile Flat Championship—J, H. Prendeville, Wellington, 1; H. C. Murray, Otago, 2 ; G. S. Sharp, Otago, 3. Also started : Burk, Harrison, and Nelligan (who retired at various stages), and Murray led till second last lap, when Prendeville went to the front, and won easily by about 50 yards. Time 10.13 4-5. Pole Jump Championship—C. O. Laurie, Auckland, 9ft lOin ; J. McLachlan, Otago, 9ft 9in ; M. Gunn, Canterbury, 9f Sin. Seoond and third men tied at 9ft 7in. In jumping off the tie at 9ft 7in MacLaoblan beat Gunn by lie. Quo Mile Flat Championship—H. Gi Burk, Otago, 1 ; J. H. Prendeville, Wellington, 2; D. Nelligan, Canterbury, 3. Moore, Read, and Mace also ran. Won
by 20 yards. Time 4.28 2-5. Prendeville’a time was 220 Yards Championship—F. E. Drake, Canterbury, 1; J, H. Morgan, Canterbury, 2; A- Hoare, Otago, 3. Base, who qualified, also started.
