The unfortunate plight of » young lady brought in from Hangaroa on Friday evening sufforing from scarlatina gave riso to discussion at tbo mooting of Borough councillors yesterday morning. The young lady bad to put in hours waiting at tho medical surgeries before accommodation could bo obtained for her. Then it was in a vac. ui bouso on Victoria township. Dr DrLislo, district health officer, had stated that if ho hud known of tho circum•taocos bo would have sent a compul scry ordor for the pationt’s admission to tho Hospital, and tho Mayor added that oven in that cssa tho Trusters would have rofused admission. Dr DeLisle, bo stated, I selected a site for tho isolation ward on | the Borough propeity, Waikanao. Somo disouesion ensued as to whothor it was right to havo such a ward near the abu'toirs, the Mayor statiug that the site was ibreo-qua tsrs of a milo from whero tho mout was killed, and that Dr D.Lislo could sec no objeotion on that soore, Crs Bright and Colloy thought tho Hospital grounds the proper placo. At ft meeting of tbo Hospital Trustees the plan received from the Health Department was forwarded by Dr DeLisle, who slated that ho did not considor the Board bound to adtiero to the plan, aDd they could, if desired, proceed with the orection of tho cottage already agrood on, It was decided that the Borough Inspector, Mr Liltle, bo authorised to prepare specifications on a modified plan of the cottago plan approved by Dr DeLisle. Mr Harding, in reply to Mr Ma'thews, said that since last meeting Dr DeLisle had ohoseD the site. Mr Matthews said the mattor had been held over till the present meeting. He objectod lo the si'o being ohosen behind tht ir backs. Had Dr DeLisle any right to decide the site ? It was explained that a number of Councillors and Trustees accompanied Dr DsLislo when he fixed tho site, and that the BorcDgh Council were prepared to give two acris. The Cba'rman said it had bsen deoided last September that if the Government approved the site should be at the Wai ksnae. Drs Yalintine and Mason were in favor of the sits. Mr Matthews strongly protested against the Waikanao site, and declared that it would bo a tnsnaoe to tho whole district to have consumptive and infectious disease wards so mar the abattoirs. Drs. Mason and Valintine did not have tho asms knowledge of the Iccal conditions as members did. A more suitable place was on the Haiti boaob.

Mr Harding said he bad held tho same opinion as Mr Mattkaws, but had been assured by Dr. DjLisle there was nodaDgcr, and that Ihe Bits was suitable. Mr Matthews said that they bad oreoted an abattoirs to giva clean moat to the public ; now they would stultify it by putting up in its vioinny a hospital for some of the woret diseases known. Fuither discussion ensued, in the course cf which Mr Haiding said he had brought befoic their notice that meat from the abatt irs would be passing the ward, but they did not considor that any bad effects need bo ft ared. It was resolved to apply to tho Borough Council for a transfer of the two acres for the sits of the ward. Mr Matthews dissented.-
