HIGH SCHOOL BOARD.
The annual mecFng of tho High School Board of Governors wos held yestrlay afternoon, when there wore present— MossraC-A. D.Lantour, J. Col-man, A. Fordo Matthews, end Wm. Morgan, accro'ary. Tho Chairman expressed ro arot that tboro was not more emulation amongst tho pupils of the Gisborne schools. Ho thought that a conference botweon tho Gisborno School Committro and tbolFgh School Board might effect a more satisfactory state of things Tho Board wo:o in a very delicate poßi lion, and could not give effoct to their wishes, but tho school eommitteo had always troated their wishes with tho greatest courtesy, and ha felt sure that a conference between the two bodies would be productive of much good. _ MrMat'.bows agreed with the Chairman Ho was oi the opinion that assistani teaebois should bo given moro time to mature. He noticed that the children often lacked tho applicability of putting the loarniDg they had received to practical knowledge, Ho thought a joint confer* once betwoen tho Board and the School Committee should be arranged. The Chairman said the proposal would require to eomo from the Committee, as the Board wero ooly able to give expression to their wishes. Mr C. A. DcLau'our was, on the motion of Mr Matthews, seconded by Mr Cole, man, unanimously 10 elected chairman Mr Matthews said that Mr DcLautoui had alwajs taken a foremost position _ii promoting education in the district, witl the very best results to the district anl a concerned. , . „ , Mr DeLautour, m returning tliaoki i said that as long as bis services wot available they wero welcome to them.
