THE PEOPLE’S BANK.

SPLENDID PROGRESS. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, last night. Figures prepared by the Postal Department at the instance of Sir Joseph Ward show that ten years ago the number of accounts open at tho Pest Offici Savings Bank was 137,683, and at the end of 1905 the number was 276,066. This shows that almost half the adult population had accounts in December last at the bank. The deposits in 1895 numbered £217,393, and last year £509,112, an increase of 13P19 per cent. The sum of £2,794,506 was deposited in 1895, and in 1905 the deposits were £6,625,744, an increase cf 137'10 per oent. The amount of withdrawals in the two years was £2,369,333 and £5,984,184 respectively, and the balance to credit of depositors at tho end of each respective year was £3,395.543 and £8,662,093.
