Owing to the prevalence of cholera, the Prince of Wales has abandoned a proposed tiger-shooting expedition in Nepaul. Ottawa, Feb. 20. Sir Wilfrid Laurier, speaking at a University banquet at Toronto, declared that Canada had no grievance as regards Imperial relations, but if institutions were changed it would be towards union of the Empire and coupled autonomy of different ports.

Sir Horace Tozer has placed a contract in England for ten thousand tons of rails at 145 s per ton, landed in Queensland. Publicity is being given to Queensland’s new laws, enabling land to be selected in London. The liberal concessions in regard to passage money are attracting much notice. Sydney, Feb.'2l. News has been received of the death of Mr H. Inhess, a prominent resident of Lord Howe Island. A severe drought prevails on the island. A meeting of thefreetrade members of the Federal party, Mr Beid presiding, discussed the issue for the next Commonwealth elections, and agreed to organise on anti-Socialistic lines, and to contest all seats in New South Wales. The New South "Wales Alliance has practically resolved to contest the State election on the no-license ticket.

He and the nation grea’ly Bppreoiate the bestowal of the Order of the Garter, considering that it marks a oomplete removal of the racial barrier between Japan and the West.
