(Per Pres# Aasocfotlon.) , Napier, last night. Conroy and Company’s butcher’s shop in Hastings Btreet was gutted by fire o »rly this morning, and an adjoining shop occupied by Mr B. Palmerston North, last night. A boardinghuuse oeoupei by Mrg Peiers was destroyed by fire shortly before miduighi last n'gbt. A large quantity of furniture'and some personal effects of the boarders were removed. A majority of the inmates, however, will be losers. Mrs Peters had £2OO on the furniture and £6OO cn the house, bat will be a heavy lossr. A high wind, was blowing at the time, and the brigade did good work, confining the outbreak to the boardinghouse.

A new building, almost oompleted, on the outskirts of the town, was destroyed by fice at one o'clock this mqrning. There was a builder’s risk of £l6O. in thp Man* ohrster 'office, No water was available) and tbs plaoe was totally destroyed. The oause is unknown. The plaoe was left seoure at six o'clock last night, ’ The frequency of outbreaks in unoccupied places of late in. the middle of the night is causing some alarm. It is believed the fires are caused by incendiarism, previous fires being in inferior dwellings or detached sheds, John Sullivan, the owner in this instance, is at a loss to aooount for the fire. The estimated value of the building destroyed was about £250.
