A TRAGIC DEATH.
MAN KILLED BY FOUL GAS
RESCUER’S LIFE ENDANGERED,

Two men, Brady aod Radford, had been engaged sinking a well about a mile from here; Ou returning to work this mornibg Brady, who was the first to go down the well,'was immediately overcome by foul gas and fell to tho bottom. Radford sought the assistance of Goodson brothers and others. Fred Goodson went down the well to endeavor to get Brady up, but he no sooner got down than he too was overcome. Fortunately he had taken the precaution to put a rope round his body, and by this means he was hauled to the surface. He was unconscious, and remains so, being under medical treatment. Sergeant Phair got Brady's body up with grappling irons. Life was extinct. The fumes from the well were overpowering. Brady was a single man. It is believed that his pa-ents reside at*Ofcahuhu. Later.—Goodson remained unconsoious until five o’olook, but since then he has improved. Brady had only desoended about 20 feet when he was overcome.
It was lucky for Goodson that he was hauled up so speedily. Had it been otherwise he would have sucoumbed.
