RIDICULOUS APPEAL FOR LENIENCY.

A deputation headed by the Mayor wailed on the Premier to day to ask that that portion of the Magistrate’s decision plaoing the boy who bad been found guilty of plaoing an obstruction ou the railway line in an industrial school should be remitted. The Premier emphatically declined to do so, saying that it was necessary for the publio safety that suoh offences should be severely dealt with, and he would not interfere with the Magistrate’s judgment.
