Three ohiefs and. five hundred natives of Nidillovo district, Natal, thanked Mr H. D, Winter, Secretary for tbe Native Affairs, for a visit,and promised to pay the poll tax. Tbe tension is relieved. Europeans in tbe vicinity had oonßtruot* ed laagers, fearing an atfaek.

Capetown, Feb. 16. Two Datives guilty of an attack on tbe polioe in Richmond district were oourtmartialled aud shot in the pressnoe of the tribe.
The authorities ordered the tribe to arrest the others.
The kraals aud crops of the natives implicated have been destroyed. All is quiet.
