BUTTERS’ PATENT FENCING

EXHIBITION BY MURRAY, ROBERTS AND CO.

There was a large attendance of farmers and others interested in fenoing at the exhibition of Butters’ patent fencing held by Messrs Murray, Roberts and Co. in the paddock adjoining their store in Custom street on Saturday afternoon. Similar exhibitions have been given throughout the colony, and wherever the patent has been shown it has elicited the keenest admiration, The patent posts have much to commend them, beiDg cheaper, stronger and lighter than the ordinary wood posts, whilst on the score of durability they are to be greatly preferred. They are specially adopted for this district, where farmers J have to pack over rough oountry. The total cost of fenoing by the adoption of Butters’ patent is reduced by over a third, and the advantages that it holds oyer the present system are so manifest that sat tiers are standing in their own light by not I adopting it. Within tho last eight months I close on 200,000 have been sold, the buyers including many of the leading sheepfar- I mers of the North Island. Since his I arrival in Gisborne Mr F. A. Lakin, who J

is representing Messrs Munay, Roberts and Co, has sold 8000 posts and 12,000 droppers, and on Saturday received a further ba'ch of orders. Butters’ fenoing is easily erected, one requiring no previous experience in the work. Wo would strongly recommend settlers to call on Murray, Roberts and Co. and see this patent for themselves. The price of the posts is £7 10s per 100 and the droppers £2 5s per 100. j Mr Lakin took the priz9 at the Oamaru show last year for tho feuc-, and at the Dunedin show the fence was commended. I

The stock of posts and droppers in the colony has aheady been disposed of. Further orders can be booked at any time. A fresh stock will be to band in about a month’s time, and orders will then be promptly attended to. The favorable impression created in Gisborne by the fence is given practical proof by the faot that already Mr Lakin has cleared out the local stook of 3500 pests and 6000 droppers, in addition to havirig booked orders for 3500 posts and 5000 droppers. It may be mentioned that the latter orderß wore taken in about half an hour, subsequent to the exhibition. Mr Lakin leaves on Wednesday for Masterton to atteod the ebow and tour the W

'airarapa. The extent of the business he has been doing oan be judged by tbe fact that in seven weeks ho has sold 17i000 posts and 31,000 droppers. Tbe firm gives a guarantee that the posts can be easily driven through papa*
