AN ABSCONDER
FRIENDLY SOCIETIES’ FUNDS UNACCOUNTED FOR.
(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, last nighl
Regarding a prominent friendly society official, said to have left Christchurch ostensibly for a holiday and not returned, i?
is 6tated now that he was secretary of two lodges for a number of years. One was an order embracing a considerable portion oil Canterbury, and the other, though not strong, a lodge that reoeives a fair amount of money annually. When the books were audited after the man’s departure only two deficiencies were, it is said, found, and these were for minor sums. Money received for No. 2 lodge was found to be acknowledged on a reoeipt form of No. 1 lodge, and mortgages, whioh ought to have been considerably reduced, are little or anything less than when they were negotiated. It is understood that a warrant has been issued for the absoonder’s arrest.
