WOOL SALE.

THE LOCAL SALES

The local sales wore held yesterday afternoon, there bemg the uiual attendance of looal and outside buyers. Messrs Williams and Kettle report : “Compared with last sales fleece wool brought about the same figure. The offering consisted mostly of rough wool, whioh sold from B}d to BJd, whilst any oleaner sorts realised up to 9|d. Good orutohiDgs brought up to 6J a lb, bellias and pieoes from s£d to 7d, according to quality and condition. Leeks were in strong demand, and made from 4d to s:ld. The priocipal feature of the sale was the increase in demand and high price realised for good sheepskiDs, for whioh a record price of 9d was obtained for soma nicepelted, well-woolled ekios. Generally speaking, well-saved station skins fetched an average of B£d, whilst poorly-Faved pelts brought from 6£-d to 7Jd. Shearling pelts were keenly Bought a f ter, and brought from la 3J to 2). Hides caused much oompetit'on, and brought from for rough station hides up te 5d for wellsaved stations. A good line of ox freezers, averaging 581 b- brought 243 each, whilst another line of cows made 28s 9J. The offering of tallow was short,-but demand was strong, and clean oddments made op to 195.”

Messrs Dalgety and Co. roport having obtainsd the following prioea : —Greasy fleece B*d to 9d, crossbred lambs’ wool Bfd, locks 4d to sd, pieces 6*d, dead wool 7*d to B.|d, hides 4Jd. Messrs Bennett and Sberratt adviso having sold sheepskins at BJd, station hides sd, locks od, dead wool B|d, crutchings 61, tallow 18s per owt. There was very iittle wo )1 showing all round, and buyers complained of the small entry.

The New Zealand Loan and Agency Company obtained the following prices : Wool, crossbred BJd, rntrioo 9*d, lambs and hoggets to 6Jd. locks 4fd, crutahings Bid, pieces from s*d to 7d, bellies 6Jd. Hides brought Bid, and skins Bid, pelts Is lid each. Tallow realised 19s per cwt.

Messrs Common, Sbeltoa aid Co. re port: Competition was not very keen compared with last sale, except for scouring lots, whioh were proportionately beltsr than heretofore. Skins were keenly competed for, especially good lots. The prices ranged as follows Fleece wool 8d to 9J, pieces to 7d, looks 4d to 51, well saved station skins sold up to extra good lots to 9d, medium 7d to inferior 5d to 6}£d,

The third wool sale of the season is proceeding. The wools offered are not of as high a grade as those submitted at the second sale. The later Bhorn show more condition, but the presence of biddiebids in the fleeces somewhat detracts from their appearanoe aDd values. Taking the qualities of wool offered at the two sales, todays’s prices are relatively higher than the previous sale. Oae experienced auctioneer aays this is the moat uniformly good sale be has known in 30 years’ experience. Competition was keen in every class. The Moa Flat half-bred ewea’ wool brought up to 13*d, Argylo, station halfbred 18, and Greenvab halfbred 13i. Several other choice lots of halfbred wool from Otago stations brought from la to 13 i. Merinos from Argyie station realised up to 12;}J, and first pieces of merino from Moa Flat up to lid, while first ba'fbred pieces from the same clip end from Ashley Downs realised lljd.

There is a general expression of opinion that to-day’s wool sa'e was the beat held in the colony so far this seasoD. The bales catalogued numbered 8534. The afendance of buyers was largo, and comnetitioD, though somewhat irrogolar, was brisk for all classes of fleece wool. Prices for halfbreds and crossbreds of all dosoriptions were from par to a halfpenny higher than last sale, whilo merino showed a fiso in many oases of a psnny. Pieces and bellies were easier. Telford’s Watwera clip of super combing merino realised laid first combing mer.no 12)d and 12*d, second combing lli 1, pieces and necks in;' 3 bo’lies 9:}l. Flemings Kaibikie merino brought 18*1, qoartarbrod 14d, and half bred 13|d.
