3NSTJMPTIVES AMONG WORKING CLASSES. (Per Press Association.) AuoklaDd, last night. A communication was read at a meetis of the Hospital and Charitable Aid toard to-day, stating that a legacy of HOO had been left to the Board by the ate Captain Lamb Mr Bloomfield, referring to the legacy, aid that probably benevolently disposed iarsons in Auckland did not fully realise he painful position of persons suffering rom phthsis. ~ The Chairman of the Board said he had ind would continue to have considerable liffioulty in dealing with suoh oases. Mr Bloomfield said he had drawn atten-iion-to a matter of some concern, for he 4he speaker) had been assured by Dr. Valinline that the number of consumptives among the workii g olaeses in New Zealand was one in five—a terrible proportion. Ho had hoped that Auckland would have been indepandent of outside help in this matter, but in view of the large expenditure which would have to be inourred on tho hospital and for other purposes, the position now required further consideration.
