THE TROUBLE IN FRANCE.

Paris, Feb. 2. M. Rouvier, in the Chamber, emphasised the Government moderation in taking inventories in accordance with the terms oi the law for the separation of Church and State. He said it was impossible to foresee the present resistance end disturbances, whoso objects were political, but tbe great body of Catholics must not be eonfused with agitators. The law would be firmly upheld and enforced.
A vote of confidence in the Government was oarried by 381 to 186.
SERIOUS RIOTING.

Paris, Feb. 2. A riot occurred iu a fashionable church at Saint Eclotilde, Paris. The demonstrators inside included Duo 1 Chartres. There were faction fights outside. An official was fluDg down the steps, whereupon M. Lspine, Prefect of Polioe, brought a company of Republican Guards. M, Lepine was dragged inside, but was resoued by a few of the foremost Guards, The doors were slammed in.their face, and the iron gates shat. The troops broke in, using the butts of their rifles. The demonstrators who used sticks, were to a corner, where they sang hymns, 1 Several women were trampled upon, Every window was smashed, and the floor littered with missies. An inventory was then taken.
One hundred and fifty arrests were made.
Thirty demonstrators and fifty policemen and Guards were injured. Similar incidents are reported from the provinces.
