A YOUNG VILLAIN.

Qomlan and a younger brother, whom ho helped to support, lived in a lodging house. Thoir mother having brought thorn from Queensland left them. Quinlan received bis discharge from the hotel on Wednesday owing to his being too young for the duties. Mrs Gregory bad shown him kindness and given him several presents. He weut to her room with the intection of seeming jewellery, and hid under tho bed. He had no intention of injuring her, but wbon discovered, in the madness of fear, stabbed her, and again hid under the bed during the commotion following tho diecovery of the crime. He afterwards managed to meke his way downstairs and escape by a window.

Sydney, Feb. 2. The attack was made with great ferocity on Mrs Gregory. There were terrible wounds on the head and many parts of the body. Quinlan almost severed two of his own fingers. Some of Mrs Gregory’s jewellery miseed some days prior to the murder wa3 discovered in Quinlan’s room, There are indications that he planned the robbery. He bought the sheath knife.
