. Wool is animated and very firm. To date 116,039 bales have been catalogued, and 111,133 sold. The following were tbe average prices realised for the fleece portions of the clips Darned : PimpaDa lljd, Gum Creek (Christchurch) lljjd, Akiteo 12Jd, Napier (Motuaria) 13gd.
(Per Press Association.) Wellington, last night. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following report from the High Commissioner, dated London, 27th January ; " The mutton market is somewhat steadier, Tbe average price of Canterbury mutton is 4£d ; other and North Island mutton 3£d, The lamb market is overstocked and depressed, Australian lamb being in large supply. This season’s New Zealand lamb 5d (nominal), Australian lamb 4d. There is scarcely any demand for beef. The average pcioe of hindquarters of New Zealand beof is 3d, fores 2£d, The butter market is unsettl:d, being unfavorably affected by large shipments from Australia. Tbe price of ohoicest New Zealand butter to-day is 112 i per owt, Danish 119 s. The cbeeso matkot is quiet. Prioeß are sligbly weaker, high prices restricting business. New Zealand cheese is quoted at from 62s to 63s per cwt. The hemp market is active at higher prices. The price of New Zealand hemp is £33 per tOD, January to March shipments £32 per ton. The .cocksfoot seed market is firm with more inquiry at about the last price. The wool market is aotive and firm.
