HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE.

MR J. C WILLIAMSON’S DRAMATIC COMPANY. " A ROYAL DIVORCE.” h There was another overflowing audienoe at His Majesty’s Theatre last ovouing, ig when that thrilling epeotaoular Napoloonio drama, “ A Royal Divorco,” was staged for tho sooond timo in Gisborne. The mounting of tho drama was on a soale of grandeur hitherto unequalled in Gisborne. I l' Tho magnificont tableaux throughout tho 'S performance evoked keen admiration, and J proved quite a scenic revelation to looal I 8 playgoorp. Miss Maud Jeffries was soon I 6 at her best as PriDOoas JosephiDO, a role which gives this beautiful aotress ample scope to display her histrionio ability and J oharming individuality, her pourtrayal 1 being indeed majestio and oultured, yet truly sympathetic and womanly. Mr j Julius Knight’s Napoleon is without I doubt tho fioest conception we havo yet I seen. In appearance he is a typioal I, Napoloon, and with his woll-known ability I easily suooeeds in attaining nothing short I ' • of a great dramatio triumph. As Empress! Marie Louise, Miss Florence Hamer, a I fine stage figure, was eminently successful, I her olooution and her regal demeanor, I so ossential to this oharaoter, left nothing to be desired. Mr Leonard Willey made an admirable Marquis de I BoautnoD, doing fxoellent work through- I out the play. Miss Unie Russell once I more oaptivated tho audience by her I graceful pourtrayal of Stephanie do B'-n rjharnip, a part which is woll sus-* I taiuod and becomes this talented young I lady. As The Little King of Rome Miss Gwennio Walsh made a decided hit, and I at once won the favor of the audienc3 by I her sweet interpretation. Mr Herbert I n Leigh, as Mons. de Tallyrand, had a oon- J genial part allotted him, and missed no I point in achieving the auooass at'ainod. J Mr Harry Piimmor, whose fame is known I throughout Australasia, onoe again excelled himself as General Augeran, whilst the remaining parts of tbo cast were one I _ and all well and ably sustained by power- I ful supporters. Ono of the gems of the evening was the singing- of “ The "w Little Corporal” by Mr Rosevear— J 11 Jacques,"—whose inimitable interprota-> Cc t'on of this song immediately took on and for merited for this artist a triple encore, r whilst theßoyal Ballerinas” received an ovation and fairly oaptivated the large j audience by the performance of the ex-1 quisite ballet, " Des J-lie Ori»Ccie,”whioh j stirred the audienoe to intense on thusia;m.

THE FAREWELL NIGHT.
