WELLINGTON NEWS

(Per Press Association.) Wellington, last night, The New Zealand Bugby Union has decided to hold a reception to the football team on their arrival at Auckland. Consideration of the form of the souvenir to the team has been postponed. Mr W. J. Culver, general secretary of the Liberal and Labor Federation of New Zealand, has been presented with an illuminated address and purse of sovereigns in recognition of the services to the party. A presentation was also made to Mrs Culver. Among those at the function were Sir Joseph Ward, Hons. Pitt, Duncan and Mills. ! The annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the New Zealand Institute commenced to-day, Mr Martin Chapman presided. The meeting placed on record its sense of deprivation in the death of Professor Hutton, and a short adjournment was made as a tribute of respect to the deceased. At the session of the New Zealand Institute Sir James Hector was e’ected president, and other offices were filled as follows : Treasurer, MrJoynt; secretary, Mr Gill; editor and librarian, Mr Hamilton. Dr Coleridge Farr reported that magnetic survey work had been resumed, and observational work would be completed within the next two or three months. A motion that a summary of the meteorological returns be included in the volumes of the Transactions of the Institute was negatived.
