| TOKOMARU* " I [(From Our Own Correspondent.) | Jan. 21. The annual school picnio took place here on Wednesday, the 17th. Nearly all the European children in the district were present, numbering between 60. and 70 of all ages. Games of all kinds were indulged in from an early hour until about C p.m. Abundance of good things had been provided by the parents, which were done ample justice to by the children. Toys and prizes for all were provided. Mr Fairlie, chairman of the committee, and Messrs T. Gordon and D. J. Hewetson, committeemen, managed the games and competitions in a thoroughly impartial manner. Mesdames Fairlie, Green, Perry, Hooper, Gordon, Hewitson,' Wilson and Sigley were all present, and needless to say did all they possibly could to make the day an enjoyable one. A dance in the hall after the picnic was well attended and also proved a success. Mr Fairlie showed his usual good judgment in selecting and awarding the prizes for the following Big Boys’ Pace —B. Fairlie 1, H. Fairlie 2. Small Boys’ Pace—F. Nehu 1, N. Green 2. Girls’ Pace—G. Gordon 1, Era Hooper 2, Smaller Girls—G. Hooper 1, H. Sigley 2. Ladies’ Pace—Miss Fairlie 1, Miss Ball 2. Married Ladies’ Pace —Mrs Bushell 1, Mrs Hewetson 2. The Jumping Handicap resulted in a tie between B. and G. Fairlie and C. Gordon, the former, who is only eleven years of age, jumped 4ft 2in. F. Hooper and H. Oates tied for the Small Boys’ Jumping Handicap. A fine lot of new books have just been landed for our local library. Next Sunday the Pev.
