FATAL ACCIDENT.
A fatal accident ocourrod at the Waih mine on Monday afternoon, when a miner named Archie Nicholson was killed instantaneously. The deceased was working in a riso between Nos. 4 and 5 levels, and : u »t before " crib ” time bad Bred three ho’es. Only two explosions followed, aod the party conoluded that two had gone off simultaneously, though only one report was heard. This theory was strengthened by the fact that no other report was heard, and so, after ’‘onb” time, the mon resumed work without any fear of misfiring Mr Foote, deceaeed’s working mate, commenced piekiog down theshattered groat, d. After u good deal had been brought dawn the deceased took charge of the pick, and the second blow struck the unexploded bole, and the ohargo going off Nichoißon received the full force in his face and shoulders. His face was completely i shattered, and his shoulders and ohest blown almost away. The accident oast quite a gloom over the community, the deceased being well known, and very highly respected. He came from Australia, and leaves a wife and a youDg family of two.
