UNITED V. BREVYERY. On Saturday aftarnoon, the United eleven accepted an invitation from the newly-formed Brewery toam to play a match on the latter’a ground. The Browery men batted first, but could only total 27, Bgainst the bawliDg of W. Gibson (five wickets) and Harker (three wickets). This was the first time the Browery batsmen had to face alow break bowliDg, and the majority of thsm sacrificed tbeir wickels by hiit'ng at the pitch of the bal l . United replied with 101 (Gibson 37, Hal’amore 27, Onto 23). In their second innings, the home team did muo'u better aDd ran up 118 before tho list wickoi fell. Wynyard played a fine, free inn'nga for 66 before being smartly thrown out by Cat-'. The Brewery Club has a number of liktly men in their ranks, and if they stick to gether and piaotiso as enthusiastically pb thoy have teen doing since the formation of their Club they should mtke their presence folk in tho senior competition next season. The visitors wore mo6t hospitably octortuined on S iturday, and tho ma'.ch was a most enjoyable one,
Tbe Association matches were resumed on Saturday. Patutahi recorded their, third forfeiture, whioh placed United ones moro in the lead for the championship, being a point ahead oi Taruhoru. Te Rau defeated County by 43 runs to 27. Both teams placed short. Tho small scoring was accounted for by the good bowling of Holahier and Murphy (Oourty) and llbert and O’Hara (Te Rau). In their second innings Te Rau-knccked up' 120, Mouk 40 and Gorman 39 being obiof run Qounty - LaDg and Hojehur being not out with 20 an] 27-re3'i‘epHv|Ty. .
