Yesterday afternoon an inquest was held at Ashton on tho eight-month-old child of John .Hampton, farmer. The evidence showed that while the mother was bathing the child she fainted, and when she "recovered consciousness she found the child drowned in the bath. The verdict , was that the child, while being bathed, was accidentally drowned owing to the mother fainting. Dunedin, Saturday. At tho inquest on William Joseph Dunbar, a University student, drowned at Portobello, a verdict of accidentally drowned while bathing was returned. Tho j ury expressed warm appreciation of the bravery-displayed by Arthur John Cotterill, in attempting a rescue, Invercargill, Saturday. The Magistrate, Mr McCarthy, cancelled the old ago pension of John Dewar, who was convicted of drunkenoss. Tho pension was granted in December. j. .
