(Per Press Association.) I Now Plymoulh, last night. Henry Rae John McAnally, Patrick Conway, Patrick Flanagan, Steve Fahey and Daniel Campbell were again before the Court charged with betting oa a borough reserve on the occasion.of the last Taranaki meeting. [ The defence was that tho borough byelaw under which defendants were charged was ultra vires. The Magistrate reserved his decision, remarkin'?’ that at present he was inclined vict, but that if necessary he would hear further argument.
Inglewood, last night. Mr Jennings, in tlie course of a I speech of thanks at the congratulatory social held in his honor, said he was glad to the Premier’s remarks Ire the settlement of native lands. He hoped it would not merely be a figure lof speech, as tho prosperity of the I North Island was linked with that question. Continuing, he said roads must have more attention. He knew children deprived of education for over three years on this account. Ho also knew cases where husbands had to do everything incidental on the birth of children, owing to their inability to send their wives out to a settled distiict on account of the dangerous nature of the tracks. The penalty of pioneering was heavy enough without these added dangers.
Oamat’u, last night. For milk supplies during Decomber the Taieri and Peninsula Company paid out £27,000. supervision of Dr Truby Ring, the company will at once instal plants for the manufacture of humanised milk for infants. This is an important new de» parture, and the company are the first persons to take it up seriously.
