By telegraph, Press Ass’n, CoDyright London, Jan, 18. _ A London syndicate lias secured eight thousand shuros in the company formed to promote tho building of a patent non-vibrating engine, invented by Mr Werry, of Bendigo. The Thames’ Shipbuilding Company is building an engino capable of driving a torpedo boat for demonstrative purposes.
New York, Jan. 18. Since the rupture with Prance the chief officials of tho French Cable Company have been expelled from Venezuela. M. Taigny, the Chargo D’Affaires at Caracas, boarded a French cruiser from Martinique to obtain despatches, without the usual permit. T t. Sydnoy, Jan. 19. I ine Labor Council adopted a resolution congratulating the British Labor I Party on its successes at the elections. Melbourne, Jan. 19. I A train ran through a flock of sheep at Castetron, killing 150. A fire at Mildura destroyed five nhops and three dwellings. The State Government has arranged with Thonemann ■ and Company to underwrite a local loan of £1,513,000 at four per cent., falling due in London in July. It is understood that many leading financial institutions are interested in sub-underwriting.
