Christchurch, last night. The New Zealand International Exhibition weekly official review of progress states : . The executive oommissidners (.have received a cablegram from the Canadian Minister of Commerce at Ottawa, stating that the Dominion’s requirements for spaoe at the exhibition would be 10,000 square feet. The Canadian Government proposes'to erect its own buildings, and made enquiries as to the cost of an ap-' propriate building, and also if satisfactory arrangements could be made to bays work done by Christchuroh contraot«PK~ The matter is now under consideration, and alternative plans of suitable buildings and estimates of cost were forwarded by the San Franoisoo mail this week. - A proposal is in course of organ’sation in Buenos Ayres, arranging the formation of a large party of tourists to visit New Zealand during the eatly part of 190/j with a view primarly of visiting the attractions in tbe programme issued'for' the international football matoh between England and New Zealand at the Crystal Palace on the 2nd December last. The opportunity was taken to advertise the ooming international exhibition, as well aa the means of transit to the colony. The Art Gallery building is now rapidly progressing, and applications for spaoe arp being received freely, Amongst those already received from Australasian art . societies are the following: Queensland Art Society, Canterbury Society of Arts, Auokland . of Arts, Victorian Artists’Sooiety, Aoademy of Fine Arts of Wellington; Royal Art Society of Sydney,' Dunedin Art Society. Allotment of space has therefore been made for eaoh of tbs applications. ■ At a moeting of the Ceremonial and. Entertainment Committee it was reported ' that the Ode Committee had decided to advertise for competitive odes commemorative of the exhibition. The time for the competitions to be gent in was extended to the 15th March, 1906. The Dunedin Philharmonic Society have offered to give concerts in the exhibt- • tion oonoert ball daring the exhibition season, and their offer has been aeceptcd. The Japanese Government has ' notified their intention to assist finaooiall^.^. representations of industrial exhibits from ' that country.

The architect's 1 estimate for this building was £SOOO, and tho lowest tenderer exceeds £BOOO. Under ' 1 these circumstances it has been decided to modify the plans and specifications with the object of keeping the expenditure, within a reasonable litqit.
