The schooner Gisborne leaves Auckland tc-day for Gisborne. The Ma'awhero stock sales take place to-morrow. A large number of sheep and cattle will be offered. Mails derpatohed from Melbourne via Brindisi on December 13 arrived in London on January 12tb. The famous magician Czerny closed his Gisborne season Isst night, when there was a delighted and mystified audienee, every item being warmly appreciated and applauded. Cyc'ists who show off their proficiency by ridiDg their machines over the Taruberu footbridge had better oonlent themselves with walking aoross the bridge, or they will be oalled on to contribute to the publio revenue. It appears that some cyclists have been showing reckless disregard for pedestrians crossing the bridge, and theie will be general rejoicing if an example is made of one or more of the culprits.
The monthly meeting of the Charitable Aid Board was held list evening, there being present: Mr Townley (chairman), and Messrs Harding. Whinray, Webb, and F. J. Lyßnar. Mr Whinray suggested that representations should be made to the Government in regard to families the Board had to keep when the bread winners had been EeDt to gaol, so that a better system might be instituted. The visiting committee reported that all was well at the Home. The custodian ao knowledges with thanks the following gifts: Clothes, Mrs J. Townloy; cakes, etc., High Scool picnic and C.E. Society ; fruit, Mr Whinray. The number of inmates was thirteen. Messrs F. J. Lysnar and W. Miller were appointed a visiliog committee for the ensuing month.
