BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Tbo fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council was held last evening, there being present the Mayor (Mr J. Townley), and Cis HardiDg, Whinray, Webb, Lysnar, Bright, Sheridan, Rees and Miller. The overseer, Mr M. Morgan, reported as follows:

“Mr Dunlop's contract—Mr Dunlop agreed to commence workiog at his free contraot on Monday, the 15th inst, bat has net yet commenced, he' thinks your Counoil should grant him Is per tree extra on his contraot price, as the leaves being now on the trees makes it so much more work in handling them. There is 12 ohains more of sea frontage in tho block which requires to be protected ; this will require 228 trees at 7s per tree, total £79 16s. This represents the extra Is asked for.

" Bridge oontraot—Mr Morrison has completed his contract for tarring and painting the three bridges in a satisfactory manner, together with the extra work of painliDg to footway, fence, etc., authorised by your Council’s committee. I would reoommend the payment in full for same, £9O.

‘‘Taruheru foot bridge—There baa been considerable complaints of danger in crossing this bridge, through the oaroless and reckless manner of cyclists in riding over tbe bridge at a rapid speed, and ooming down the incline with as much speed as their machines oan make up. This is a dangerous and cruel practice when ladies and children are crossing.' It is indulged in by many as a great feat, but it should be stopped.

“ Harris Street—l have the formation of this street in hand, and hope to be ready for gravel in a few days. Gravel to hand to date BiDoe the last moating, ten tons.

“ Bright Street —I estimate the cost of forming this street to tsko the water into the Waikanae by a straight course at £27 10s; this does not include metal.” It was deoided to oheck the complamt re bioyoles, to have a warning sign put up, and to communicate with the police on the subject.
