BOWLING TOURNAMENT.
GISBORNE REPRESENTATIVES. Special bo the Times. Wellington, last night. Most of the Gisborne bowlers left by the express train this morning, and the remaining number journey overland tomorrow. In their final match against Newfown for the banner and Bhield, played on Satur. day, the visitors were at a great disadvantage. A heavy wind was blowing throughout the game, and it was apparent to the onlookers that the hard matobes of the previous five days bad also a telling effect on the wearers of the gold and white. Neither of the skips played with his accustomed dash, and several grand openings for driving were missed. Ponsford’s rink recovered somewhat towards the olose, but both rinks finished on the wrong side of the board. The victory of Newtown for the championship was deservedly popular, and their success was warmly applauded by the visitors themselves, who were well satisfied with getting into the final. At tho instance of the Vice-President of the Association, three cheers were given by the gathering of bowlers for the Gisborne team. The teams speak in glowing terms of the treatment received at tho hands of the Wellington Club.
