STRUGGLE FOR LIFE.
HELD BY HEELS IN FRONT OF TRAIN.
Melbouruo, Jan. 5. A terrible story of a desperate struggle for life in che oase of a man who was held by the heels in a trap whilst a railway truok was approaohiog t) mangle him to death, as in the eud it did, was related at an inquest at the morgue to-day on the body of a man named John Rendall. The soene of the tragedy was the Port Mel-bonr-o Pier. On Tuesday morning last d.e.asod, who wore boots with high, narrow heels, was hand shunting a truok, when the heel of his boot caught in a v-shaped intersection of the rails, and though be struggled to get free, and his mate helped him, he was held as in a vice till he fell, and an oncoming truck passed over his legs, orushing them terribly.
