The furnituro was insurod for £950 in the South British, but tho inaurauooa on tho house and hoarders’ effects arc not nsoortaioablo. Palmerston North, Saturday. A firo broke out in thD Provincial hotel at 5 o’alock this morning, oomplotely gutting the upstairs portion. The downstairs also was partially destroyed by water. Tho cause was unknown. The lioensee, Mr MoArnoy. was absent in Foxton. M. Croavcn owned tho hoto', which was insured for £7OO in tho New Zealand oflioe. It was a very old structure, and the Lioonsing Committoe ordered it to be rebuilt. Wanganui, Saturday. A firo ooourred at midnight in a six roomed bouso at St. John’s Hill, ocoupied jy J. G. Browne, and owned by J. E. Roniell. Browne, whose wife and family voro [absent, only movod in during the veek, and bis furnituro was unpaoked. Fhe building was gutted and everything lestroyod. Tho insurances: Building 1250 in tho Phoenix, furniture and effects '2OO in the Northern.
