DEATH OF MR FRANCIS.

known licensee of the Coronation Hotel, passed away yesterday afternoon, flags being half-masted in town as a mark of respect.

About twelve months ago Mr Francis had a severe attaok of rheumatic fever, and although to outward appearance he had fully recovered, it had no doubt affected his constitution. He became ill a

short time ago, and about a week ago was conveyed to Te Rau hospital, suffering from typhoid fever. He seemed to be well on the road to reoovery. On Saturday night, however, hi 3 condition changed for the worse, and death resulted yesterday afternoon.

Deceased, who wag only 25J- years of age, leaves a widow and two youDg children, for whom deep sympathy is felt. For some years Mr Francis was a highly valued servant of Mr J. A. Harding; later on he was employed at the Albion Hotel, where he occupied the position of manager under the then licensee, and subsequently himself became the licensee. He proved himself well qualified for that position,and later on took over the Coronation Hotel, which he ably conducted. All who have stayed at the house have a high word of praise for the management, no trouble being spared to secure [the oomfort of guests, Mr Francis wag a nophow of Mr F. Hail, and had loDg been a resident of Gisborne.

The funeral will leave Te Rau hospital at 2.30 this afternoon.
