He recovered during the voyage, and was apparently well just before the fatal seizure. Deceased was fer a number of years an estate agent in Christchurch. South Australia in their second innings soortd 188 runs ; Travers 16, Dollrng (oot out) 83. Jarvis was absent. Mr Seeoe, general manager of the A.M.P., giving evidence at the Old Age Pensions Commission, said that any organisation under whioh one Bsction of the community enjoyed advantages at the expense of tho other outraged tho most elementary principles of economics. Pensions were no exception to the rule. Those seeking thc-m wore not deserving poor, but such as led unthrifty, vicious, intemperate lives. He advocated compulsory insurance. If tho Federal Government would make it compulsory his Society would do the rest. There was too much disposition to pander to tbo working mm. This was probably due to the conversion of the Trades Unions into politioal organisations ooDtrolled by gentlemen who made a business of politics. If it is considered desirable to have pensions those enjoying the benefits should provide at least a portion of tbo means of supporting them.
