(Per Press Association.) Dunedin, last night. The professorial board of the Otrgo University have nominated Robt. Alexander Farquharson as a candidate for the Rhodes scholarship for 1905. Auckland, last night At a meeting of the Trades and Labour Couno l to-night tho proposed parliament of lobour was disousEel. It was decided to delay decision as to whether the Auckland Trades Councilt of Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin would send delegates. A letter was received stating that casual labor bands wero only paid monthly, which caused much iooonvouionce, and urging the necessity for more frequent payments. The writer also stated that since the elections the custom of allowing men oatmeal to mix with water had beta discontinued. It was derided to place these matters before the Minister for Labor. Nolsod, last night. The eleven months old child of James Sorimgeour, jun., of Pakawau, crawled towards a washing boiler, and tried to pull horself up by it. She capsized the contents over herself and was so seriously soalded that death resulted.
The Golden Bay A. and P. Show was formally opened to-day by Mr B. MoKenzie, who regretted Sir J. Ward’s absence. The show was put forward to avoid clashiog with the Nelson carnival and to this is attributed a slight falling off in some of the classes.
