THE AUCKLAND RIOT

(Per Pres* Association.) Auokland, last n’gbt. Horry Dyer, a young mar, appeared at the Police Court charged with having damaged by night one window in the Zealandia reetiurant, valued at £l4. There was a large attendance of the publio to wacoh the proceedings, Counsel for defendant contended that as the window was already brokea when aooused was alleged to have thrown the stone he could not have done damage to the exteat of £l4. Before committing aooused damage to the extent of at least £5 must be shown. The bench thought th 9 evidence adduoed was oontradictiry, but that as accused had been proved without doub', by constable Burke’s evidence, to have thrown a missile, they were of opinion ihat aooused should be committed. Bail wasjallowed as in the former oase, with . two sureties of £59. There are still several oases to be heard in connection with the riot.
