BURGLARIES
(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, last night. The shop of Mr J. Reynolds, hairdresser and tobacconist, Rnugiora, was entered last night, aud several pounds’ worth of c'garettos and other goods stolen. Dunedin, last night. Two daring daylight burglaries were carried out on Wednesday. The premises of E. H. Lough, at St. Clair, wero broken, into during tbe absence of Mrs Lough, a quantity of jewellery was stolen. Lat'ee on tho house of John Stewart, in the city, was entered and a watch and chain stolen. This afternoon acting-Detective McLeod arrested a man giving the name of Frank Herne, when in the act of attempting to soil some broken up jewellery. Stewart’s watch aud the gold mountings of an albert chain wero found on him. Horne, who is about 26 years of age, says ho recently came from America. Ho arrived hero by the Mabono on Tuesday, and had a steerage ticket oa him for Lyttelton.
