BOOKMAKERS FINED

Per Press Association. Christchurch, last night. At the Magistrate’s Court this afternoon several bookmakers were fined for trespassing on Riecarton racecourse at the November meeting. J. Gray and M. Oonne ly were fined £5, and S. Brerly £lO. Charges against J. C. Pa’mer and D. McLaren wore dismissed on tbo ground that they were aoliog as clsrks to bookmakers. The Mugbt'ats, Mr H, W. Bishop, said it was no use warning these men, and ho intended to send them to gaol for the future. He knew he had been soft in the past, but would not be in the future.
