THE ELECTION

(To tlie Editor Gisborne Times.)

r SB,—As the heat of Ilia election ha i 1 now subsided it may net ho omits to analyse the icturns. i It is stale! that Mr Carroll received a ' majoiity of 1800; bus is til's, striclly speaking, correct when 4010 electors of Waiapu indicated that thoy were dissatis fled with bis icpnsntation, leaving him only a real majority of 622 ? Had all tho opposition to Mr Carroll been united under one candidate, is it not at least possible to suppose that it would have been stronger? “A house divided agamst itself cannot stand,” and the division amongst tho opposing sections no doubt induced a groas number, not wishing to throw tboir voto3 away, to vote for Mr Carroll who would not otherwise bavo done eo, and, again, caused others to stop away from the poll.
