EXTENSIVE IMPROVEMENTS. I—--i (Per Press Association.) Christchurch, list night. At a meiting of the Lytteltou Harbor Board this afiernoon, a lengthy report was presented by tho Board s onginear on the subject of farther harbor extensions, and on the feasibility of constructing a canal from the sea to Christchurch. The first of the harbor extension propositions provides for a.small additional harbor near Officers’ Point, which would enclose about 90 acres of water, and would cost £275,000. The second proposition provides for a new harbor at Collins’ Bay, which would enclose about 200 acres, and would cost £669,000. The first of the canal propositions provides for a tidal basin in the estuary near the mouth of the Heathcote river, which would oost £1,053.684, and the second providos for a tidal basin just below Wilson’s road, opposite tbo Liuwood railway s'alion, whieh would cost £1,743,392, which includes £879,528 for resumpt on of 358 acres of laud. The Board decided to defer consideration of the report until after the annual meeting to be held next February.
