At a meeting of the; Ashburton Borough Council last night, Councillor AV. J. Silcock offered to build abattoirs, ■with the right to charge the butchers the same rates as at present charged by the Canterbury Meat Company at Fairfield abattoirs, the conditions of agreement to be the same as existing •with that company, the agreement to be for seven years, Mr Silcock to pay igVS per annum to the Council for the privilege.
